Communications Cabler Registration
Communications Cabler Registration
Under the Australian Communications and Media Authority's (ACMA) Cabling Provider Rules, all communications cabling work in the telecommunications, fire, security and data industry must be performed by a registered or licensed cabler.
Cabling licenses are no longer issues; instead persons must obtain cabling registration with an ACMA accredited registrar.
How to register under Cabling Provider Rules
If you have a current cabling licence, instead of renewing it when it expires you need to register with an ACMA accredited registrar.
Australian Cabler Registration Service (ACRS) is an ACMA accredited registrar which was formed by NECA and others. Click here to go to the ACRS website for more information.
You will have to meet competency requirements and sign a declaration that you are competent before being able to register. You must also hold evidence that you are competent. This evidence can be:
- A current licence or
- A certificate from a Registered Training Organisation showing that you have the relevant competency.
If you have a current licence you are automatically eligible for the corresponding registrtion type as shown below:
| Licence Type | Registration Type |
| Base (BCL) or General (GPC) | OPEN |
| Restricted (RCL) or Domestic DPC) | RESTRICTED |
| Lift (LPC) | LIFT |
